'Grammy Pearl' as she was referred to was the orginal candy maker at Grandpa Joes. In the early years she was the first one to make baked goods maple candy and nuts for sale on maple sunday. Using her trusty wooden spoon she would whip up a bunch of maple goodness. One Maine Maple Sunday grammy pearls cookies were so good that her former boss and director of food service for Sacopee Valley Helen Rankin was giving them away to visitors on maple Sunday until Grammy sternly told her that they were for sale!
One featured item that grammy was insistant on was making homemade ice cream, of course her recipe called for no raw eggs so its more of a custard-y type mix that is placed into an electric ice cream maker and packed with salt and ice. This same recipe is used today and given out for samples n Maine Maple Weekend
Now Ben's wife Jen, along with daughter Emma have followed in grammys footsteps and make a bigger selection of maple confections. Its a team effort
